MPA and MU Hold Vet Seminar
Veterinarians gain new developments from seminar.
Columbia, Mo.,—The Missouri Pork Association, along with Dr. Tom Fangman of the University of Missouri Commercial Agriculture Program, co-hosted the annual Veterinarian Seminar on July 7. Twenty veterinarians and industry leaders were in attendance at the seminar, which informed them of new programs that impact swine production. Sponsors of the event included Newport Laboratories and Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc.
Dr. Derald Holtkamp, with Iowa State University, gave a presentation about the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) Assessment Data Base. The data base was a gift to the AASV from Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc.
Kevin Smith of the U.S. Meat Export Federation gave a brief presentation and update on the international standards for allowable antibiotic residues, specifically Japan. MPA intern Jo Wyatt also gave a short presentation about the new Pork Quality Assurance Plus program. The program will combine PQA and SWAP to provide an affordable solution to assure food safety and animal care.
This program is approved for continuing education and can be used for partial fulfillment of the Missouri State Veterinarian Medical Licensing Registration. The veterinarians that participated in this program will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
