Missouri Agriculture Working Together
Farm Groups Host Informational Program in Clarence
Columbia, Mo.,—On July 31, Missouri’s commodity groups came together to host a lunch and learn event. The purpose was to educate community and business leaders on the importance of animal agriculture and the pork industry. Approximately 70 people attended the event, held at Chinn Hog Farm in Clarence, MO.
Leaders of the local community, elected officials of surrounding areas, as well as friends of Chinn Hog Farms were in attendance.
“We were happy to have the opportunity to sponsor this event and expose our farm to our Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, and neighbors. We had a great turn out and received positive feedback from those who attended,” states Kathy Chinn of Chinn Hog Farms.
According to the University of Missouri and USDA, Missouri ranks 7th in the nation in pork production. Missouri’s pork production has a total economic impact of over $1.1 billion dollars. Over 32,000 direct and supportive jobs are provided by Missouri’s pork industry. On a 10 year average, Missouri hogs consume 17% of the corn and 9% of the soybeans produced in the state. This is an important relationship for both animal agriculture and the crop industry.
This event is one of over ten planned across the state this summer. The Lunch and Learn series is supported by: the Missouri Agribusiness Association, Missouri Beef Industry Council, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, Missouri’s Cattlemen Foundation, Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, Missouri Dairy Association, Midwest Dairy Association, Missouri Department of Agriculture, The Missouri Egg Council, Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Pork Association, The Poultry Federation, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council and the University of Missouri Extension Commercial Agriculture Program.
The Missouri Pork Association represents the state’s pork producers in the areas of promotion, research, education and legislation.
