Missouri Pork Association to Hold
Youth Swine Judging Contest
State Fair contest open to FFA and 4-H members.
Columbia, Mo.,— FFA and 4-H members are invited to participate in the 2009 Missouri Pork Association Swine Judging Contest on Friday, August 14 at the Missouri State Fair. The contest will take place in the Swine Pavilion on the Fairgrounds in Sedalia.
The contest is open to current 4-H and FFA members who have not yet graduated from high school. Registration is from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a $5 per person entry fee. The judging contest begins at approximately 5:00 pm.
A sponsor, such as an agricultural education instructor, county extension specialist, or 4-H leader, must enter each team, which can have three or four members. However, only the top three individual scores will be used to determine the team total.
The contest will consist of four swine judging classes and two sets of questions. No oral reasons will be taken.
Students entering the eighth grade this fall and younger will participate in the junior division. Those entering ninth grade and above will participate in the senior division.
The Missouri State Fair will provide a plaque to the winning team and the highest individual in each division. The top three teams and the top individuals in each division will receive a cash award.
The Missouri Pork Association represents the state’s pork producers in the areas of promotion, research, education and legislation.
