Missouri Students Participate in
Youth Swine Judging Contest
Winners Announced at 2009 Missouri State Fair.
Columbia, Mo.—On Friday, August 14, almost 80 FFA and 4-H members participated in the 2009 Youth Swine Judging Contest at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. Winners were announced in both the Junior and Senior Division on an individual basis and as a team. The contest, sponsored by the Missouri Pork Association, consisted of four swine judging classes and one set of ten questions.
In the Junior Division, top team honors went to the Piggy Backs Team from Bland. Team members included Dakota Gerloff, Bailey Kemp, Hailee Reid and Colten Lottmann. The top individual in the Junior Division went to Bailey Kemp from Auxvasse.
In the Senior Division, top team honors went to the Bowling Green FFA Team—members included Austin Bailey, Lorryn Bolte and Amanda Neimeyer. The second place Belle FFA Team included Zach Moore, Will Moore and Hilary Bush. In third place was the North Shelby FFA Team of Miriam Martin, Clayton Hawkins and Jason Bichsel. The high individual in the Senior Division went to Miriam Martin from Bucklin.
The Missouri Pork Association awarded plaques to the winning teams and the highest individual in each division. The top three teams and the top individual in each division also received a cash award.
The Missouri Pork Association represents the state’s pork producers in the areas of promotion, research, education and legislation.
