Dakota Arthur from Dadeville Selected for Scholarship Program
Columbia, Mo.—Dakota Arthur, a high school senior from Dadeville, has been selected as one of the 2010 Missouri Pork Association Youth Pork Ambassadors. Her selection was announced during the 2010 Missouri Pork Expo on February 10 in Columbia.
Dakota Arthur is the daughter of Sandra Arthur from Dadeville. She has shown goats, horses and, in 2009 began showing hogs. She is also co-owner of C-D Ranch and of Sliding Stop Western Shop with her sister, Cheyenne.
Dakota is actively involved in her FFA chapter, serving as Parliamentarian, Reporter and Secretary. She received first place for her Specialty Animal Production Proficiency Award at the Area level. She has been a member of many organizations, including the National Honor Society, American Boer Goat Association, Appaloosa Horse Club and the Junior Purebred Swine Association.
After graduation, Dakota plans to attend Missouri State University in Springfield to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree. She then hopes to further her education and become a Geneticist or go into Veterinary Research Medicine.
Throughout the next year, Dakota will participate in various events in the pork industry. At the end of the program, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship, payable to a technical school, community college or four-year university.
Qualified applicants must be involved in the pork industry or the son/daughter of a parent or guardian involved in the pork industry, and between their senior year of high school and sophomore year of college as of January 1, 2010.
The Missouri Youth Pork Ambassador program combines a scholarship opportunity with the chance to actively participate in Missouri’s pork industry. It provides an opportunity for youth to develop strong relationships with both pork producers and allied industry members, while improving communication and leadership skills.
The Missouri Pork Association represents the state’s pork producers in the areas of promotion, research, education and legislation.
